US data centres could consume a tenth of the country’s total electricity output in the next 5 years

2 March 2026

In the next 5 years, US data centres could be consuming a tenth of the country’s total electricity output. US start-up Exowatt has built an energy system for #datacentres that stores the sun’s energy as heat, ready to be converted into electricity as and when needed – up to 24 hours a day.

Exowatt is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, joining a community of start-ups from across the planet who are developing cutting-edge technologies to tackle some of the planet’s biggest challenges.
